Red velvet brain cake, the existence of Greenland, and a difficult sandwich

Review: Taskmaster, “You’re nice.” | Series 22, Episode 5
Alex will never find him here

It’s Taskmaster series 22, episode 5, and we’re in the studio again with Chloe Petts, who sometimes eats chocolate bars with a knife and fork; Isy Suttie, who has some beef with FIFA; Matt Lucas, who once ate in the same restaurant as Al Pacino; Nina Conti, whose prize task will haunt my dreams; and Richard Ayoade, who no longer owns a Noel Fielding painting.

Taskmaster season 22, episode 5

Although I enjoyed this episode a lot, it also highlighted one of my frustrations with this cohort: the relative lack of lateral thinking. It’s not that nobody is doing it, or that nobody is doing it well, it’s just that it’s not the backbone of the tasks. I recently recommended season 4 to a friend who’d never seen Taskmaster, and she texted me after the first episode to talk about how Hugh Dennis felled the rubber ducks. That’s what I want more of.

Still, this episode had some good laughs, and I’m enjoying the contestants individually, even if they don’t always form a cohesive whole.
