Review: Taskmaster, “A very televisual torso.” | Series 22, Episode 9

It’s Taskmaster series 22, episode 9, and our penultimate episode is a good one. We’re in the studio with Chloe Petts, who is going to be so mad if they don’t win next week; Isy Suttie, whose mom has made a lot of strange inventions; Matt Lucas, who cuts the Taskmaster’s legs off; Nina Conti, who continues to be an excellent mutterer; and Richard Ayoade, who does some great lateral thinking.

This was a fantastic episode for Ayoade, easily my favorite to date, even if his points don’t reflect that. I enjoyed all the tasks, and especially enjoyed that Ayoade really participated in them instead of holding them at a distance. This cohort hasn’t gelled for me the way that most previous ones have, and while it’s frustrating to see it coming together in the back half, I’m hopeful this season (series, Jason!) will go out on a high note.
