An extra-long episode seems unmotivated until it isn't
The choice to do a 90-minute second episode is an interesting one for Survivor—it’s uncommon, and it suggests that there’s a reason. A double-length premiere is logical as a way to introduce us to all these castaways and their integration into the game, but the second episode has often just felt like an extension of the premiere, with the rhythms of the game settling in.
